Andy Warhol
August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987
Warhol attended Mass several times a week, worked in a soup kitchen, kept a crucifix and devotional book on his bedside table and prayed daily with his mother, a devout Byzantine Catholic who lived with him until her death in 1972.
The art historian John Richardson in a eulogy noted that he was devout, saying, “To my certain knowledge, he was responsible for at least one conversion. He took considerable pride in financing his nephew’s studies for the priesthood” Many regarded him as a homosexual and yet it is also said that his personal virginity was unassailed.
